At the heart of every KFC restaurant are the people who keep things running, and for the Bohlmeyers, KFC is more than just a place of work — it’s been a lifeline during tough times and a foundation for building a brighter future.
Melissa Bohlmeyer has been part of the KFC family for over a decade, serving as an Assistant Manager in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her husband, Micheal, joined the same restaurant in 2022 as a Shift Supervisor. Together, they manage their KFC restaurant and raise their three-year-old son.
On May 3, 2024, Micheal woke Melissa up to an early morning scare. Their son was wheezing and struggling to breathe. They rushed him to the emergency room, where he was diagnosed with acute laryngotracheitis. While relieved their son was treated successfully, the unexpected medical bill weighed heavily on the family.
Thankfully, the KFC Foundation’s Hardship Assistance program was there when they needed it most, covering the entire cost of the emergency room visit. This allowed Melissa and Micheal to focus on what mattered—their son’s recovery—instead of the financial strain.
But the Bohlmeyers’ story doesn’t end there.
Lincoln, Nebraska
Through the KFC Foundation’s Saving Match program, they’ve strengthened their financial security, and Micheal has taken another significant step by enrolling in the Tuition-Free College program. He’s pursuing a degree in Computer Science from Western Governors University, all while continuing to work at KFC.
For the Bohlmeyers, the KFC Foundation has been more than a safety net — it’s a springboard for a better future. From covering unexpected medical costs to providing opportunities for higher education, the Foundation has supported their journey every step of the way.
“We’re so grateful for the opportunities and support the KFC Foundation has given us,” Melissa shared. “It’s made such a difference for our family.” With Micheal on track to earn his degree and Melissa continuing to grow in her leadership role, the Bohlmeyers are a true testament to how the KFC Foundation helps team members reach their dreams and thrive.
